Responsibilities
I served as the lead designer for this project. All graphics, colors, and content was designed by myself. Materials from when I worked as a camp counselor were used to ensure the material was applicable to a real scenario.
The Problem
This concept project for Camp Wallaby was created due to increased problems with walkie-talkies usage and care during and after the camp work day. Waklei-talkies not being charged correctly or used correctly during the work day was a major safety concern for the camp. With only a few extra walkies available to replace those whose battery had died, a solution needed to be reached.
The Solution
In order to ensure the expectations were being followed, this job aide was created in conjunction with the Camp Safety Protocols eLearning course also featured in this portfolio. The cause provided a more in depth examination of the safety reasons regarding proper walkie-talkie usage and care. Two versions of this job aide were developed; one being more printer friendly and the other matching the main colors of the eLearning course. This job aide would be provided to counselors to be kept in their binders during the work day. In addition, a copy would be laminated in the office as well as images showing each step for reference.
The Process
When creating the job aide I knew that it needed to flow and could not have too many words so as to ensure it would not put off the learners from wanting to use it. It was divided into three clear sections with bold headings to clearly differentiae between them. Phrases were kept to brief bulleted items keeping the main ideas central without adding filler words. Adding the darker green which matched the eLearning course also allowed the three sections to stand out more. The printed version does not have the green, but does have dark borders around each section drawing attention to them.
